How and why did you locate me and is it all legal?

We are keen to reunite unclaimed funds with their rightful owners. Our researchers use several publicly available resources to track owners down, so yes, it is all done legitimately and ethically. We are in fact all of our way to ensure that people get their money back- often against all odds!

How can I prove my legal ownership of the unclaimed funds?

Each of the organisations that we deal with will have different documentary requirements. You will be required to provide certified copies of documents to satisfy at least two criteria: a link to the last known postal address as proof of ownership of unclaimed funds and proof of your identity. Suitable documentation of a link to a postal address include: drivers licence, rates notice, utilities bill, inancial institute statement, correspondance from an accountant or solicitor, etc. Suitable documentation of proof of identity includes: drivers licence, birth certificate, passport, or other identity card. If the unclimed funds belong to a deceased estate, a certified copy of the Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration must also be supplied.

What is a certified copy, and why is it required?

A certified document is a photocopy of an original document that has been signed as a "true and correct copy." by a Justice of the Peace or someone similar. People who can certify documents include: Justice of the Peace, Pharmacist, doctor, dentist, vetinary sergeon, bank manager, state school principal, solicitor or police officer. Certified copies are required to ensure that all documents are submitted to support a claim are authentic.

Where do the funds come from, and what does it relate to?

Some areas we commonly deal with are unpresented cheques, dormant bank accounts, superannuation and company takeovers, rent bonds, and local council bonds; the list is endless. Privacy restrictions prevent us from disclosing the full details of the funds until we can confirm that you are the rightful owner.

What happens if I employ Smart Refund Services but the funds are never recovered?

If the funds are never recovered, no fee is payable, and you will be notified of this in writing. So essentially you have NOTHING to lose.

How are fees paid?

Fees are not paid until the funds are recovered. When the refund is confirmed, we will commence the fee payment process. The funds are deposited in the owner's name into our independent trust account. Our fee is then deducted and a cheque or direct transfer to a bank account of choice of the remaining balace is forwarded to you. In all cases, a full report will be provided containing the known details of the source and nature of the funds.
